Accommodating Unionist - British Identity Now

A Virtual Féile Event Richard Humphreys

About this Event

There are a number of urgent reasons why nationalists and republicans should be interested in accommodating now the Unionist British identity in the north. It strengthens the case for full recognition by the British government of the Irish identity of nationalists and assists national reconciliation. A broad programme of accommodation now will appeal to a wider spectrum of the community in the context of the debate on an independent all island state. The talk will suggest a menu of possible steps: institutional, legal, constitutional and cultural that could be taken now. Hosted by Richard Humphreys, organised by Féile Debates and Discussions Committee and supported by the DFA’s Reconciliation Fund

Tá roinnt fáthanna práinneacha ann faoin fháth ar chóir go mbeadh suim ag náisiúnaithe agus ag poblachtánaigh riaradh ar an fhéiniúlacht Aontachtach-Bhriotanach anois sa tuaisceart. Neartóidh sé an cás gur chóir do rialtas na Breataine féiniúlacht Éireannach náisiúnaithe a aithint go hiomlán agus cuideoidh sé le hathmhuintearas náisiúnach a bhaint amach. Má dhéanfar clár leathan riartha anois meallfar réimse níos forleithne daoine ón phobal i gcomhthéacs an phlé ar stát neamhspleách uile-oileáin. Sa chaint molfar roinnt céimeanna féideartha, institiúideach, dleathach, reachtúil agus cultúrtha a d‘fhéadfaí glacadh anois.
