Siobhan O’Neill, Professor of Mental Health Sciences at Ulster University will deliver a lecture looking at current research programmes which focus on trauma and suicidal behaviour in the 6 counties of Ireland and trauma informed interventions. Between 2005 and 2008 Siobhan coordinated the largest study of mental health in the 6 counties of Ireland, ‘NI Study of Health and Stress’. This study revealed the high proportions of individuals who had unmet mental health needs and the extent of mental illness associated with the conflict. Siobhan is a member of several international consortia and an advisor to several organisations who provide services and interventions for mental health and suicide prevention. She has over 200 published works and is a regular contributor to media items on mental health and suicide.
