Capitalism after the Coronavirus

A Virtual Féile Event Paul Mason

About this Event

In the 2008 crisis, the financial roof caved in and damaged the building of the real economy. In the corona crisis it's the foundations that have collapsed: the compulsion to work and consume, which stands at the heart of a modern economy, was suspended - and we're entering the worst slump for 100 years. Paul Mason thinks that, as with the Bubonic Plague of the 14th century, history will see this as part of a generalised crisis of an economic system: then it was feudalism, now it's capitalism. And the next casualty, argues the British journalist and writer, could be democracy in the USA.

I ngéarchéim 2008, thit an tóin as an fhíorgheilleagar agus rinneadh damáiste dá fhorbairt. I ngéarchéim an Choróinvíris, thit an tóin as na rudaí ar a bhfuil croílár geileagair nua-aimseartha bunaithe: an fonn ar obair agus ar thomhailt a dhéanamh, a cuireadh ar fionraí. Tá an cúlú eacnamaíochta is measa le 100 bliain ag dul ar aghaidh faoi láthair. Measann Paul Mason go gcuimhneofar ar an ghéarchéim seo mar chuid de ghéarchéim ghinearálta sa chóras eacnamaíochta, mar a tharla leis an Phlá Bhúbónach sa 14ú céad. Feodachas a bhí ann ag an am sin, caipitleachas is ea é ag an am seo. Síleann an t-iriseoir agus an scríbhneoir Briotanach gurb é an daonlathas i SAM an chéad taismeach eile.
