Westcourt Camera Club – ‘Article 25’

‘Article 25’ is a photographic exhibition facilitated by the Westcourt Centre and Westcourt Camera Club for Homelessness Awareness Week. Article 25 of the United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights states that ‘everyone has the right to adequate housing’ but yet in 2019 12,512 households were deemed statutory homeless by the NI Housing Executive and almost 38,000 people were on the waiting list for social housing. The images were produced by Westcourt Camera Club in collaboration with local homeless services. We asked men and women to share their feelings and emotions about being homeless and asked what they missed most about home. These responses were interpreted by the Camera Club and combined with statistics and pictures of the grim reality of sleeping rough to offer an insight into the experiences of people impacted by homelessness.
‘Article 25’ is a series of 25 images highlighting issues of homelessness, social exclusion and poverty.
